Quote that reassures me —

App I’m using —
iNaturalist
This is a great app for more of the biologist type. How it works: use the app to take a picture of any plant or animal, post it to the iNaturalist community, and discuss your findings with the community. If you know what you’ve taken a picture of, great! If not once you submit your picture the community will post comments on the picture as to what they think it is. The app also contributes to science! The app is a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society and they share findings with scientific data repositories like the Global Biodiversity Information Facility.
Initiative I’m thinking I should be part of –
5 million trees
WWF, The Wildlife Conservation Society and BirdLife International launched the Trillion Trees programme, a 25-year initiative to help scale global forest commitments and spur greater ambitions towards protecting and restoring one trillion trees by 2050, the number needed to reverse the global decline in tree cover. The planet is losing 10 billion trees per year, leading to widespread impacts on biodiversity, carbon sequestration, local economies and human health. Read about Jane Goodall's commitment.
Animal I’m Amazed by –
JAWS, I'm both amazed and terrified of sharks and they're definitely one of my favourite animals. Did you know that climate change will actually change how sharks use their brains? I was very fortunate to be able to swim with whale sharks when I visited the Philipines. One of the lesser known sharks is the Greenland Shark. Why this shark is interesting:
A deep water shark
Prehistoric, it has 1 more gill than modern day sharks
Can live to 400 yrs old aka much older than Canada
Cruise arctic depths of 7,000FT at speeds of 1.6MPH
They’re the longest-living vertebrates known on earth
They’ve got poisonous flesh, anyone sampling a Greenland shark would likely suffer convulsions and/or death
That's about it for me. If you have any feedback, a favourite part or suggestion you'd like to share about the above please let me know. If you have a speaker or vendor recommendation for our May 23rd expo you can send me a note anytime. Have a wonderful week and let's keep creating a green future together.
The future is bright,
~Kristin
